Description: "Maharlika" is a term rich with historical and cultural significance in the Philippines. It refers to a noble warrior class in ancient Filipino society, associated with royal blood and valor. The name is also linked to a lost kingdom that once ruled and unified the archipelago that was made up of the Philippines, Brunei, South Borneo, Hawaii, the Spratly Islands, and Sabah before the Spaniards "discovered" the islands in 1521 and claimed it as a colony for the Spanish Empire.
Beyond its connotations of nobility and warrior spirit, "Maharlika" embodies the ideals of peace and serenity. The embossed print of the Spanish influenced Baybayin script for "Maharlika" reflects this multifaceted legacy, encapsulating the pride in a storied past and the aspiration for harmony and noble strength in the Filipino identity.
